Cast Off Fishing Line Endangers Wildlife
This week I happened to run across some photos on face book of a goose that had its feet tangled in fishing line that it required immediate medical attention. Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Edmonton stepped in to go to Hermitage Park Trout Pond and recover the bird. The injury was quite deep as shown in this photograph.

The goose did lose its back hallux (toe). Today's photograph (bottom) shows the bird is doing well and recovering due to some dedicated staff. The rehab centre has a hospital located at 12815-128 st. in Edmonton.

The centre runs on dedicated volunteers that have vets as well. The centre does runs on donations from public and private sector. Check out their web site.
They also have a hot line of 780-914-4118 for emergency contact. Email is: info@wildlife-edm.ca The recovery centre is located near Spruce Grove.
The fishermen who leave fishing line lying around need to be reported for littering. Some of the new fishing lines that are braided are hard to cut with a sharp knife. I was quite upset looking at the photographs. It makes no sense to me why fishing line is hard to pick up and deposited in on site garbage cans. Capital city clean up has stepped in to help pick up the fishing line. Fishing line I have found is in the weeds close to the edge of the water.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
