Update on Lawsuit:

Steve Stone vs Nolan Crouse

scales-of-justice-gavel
Editor:

Nolan Crouse has announced his intention to not run for office in the next St. Albert municipal election. This raises the question as to whether I am going to proceed with my pecuniary interest lawsuit as this matter is scheduled to be before the Queen’s Bench on July 26th 2017.

All we have is a statement by Nolan Crouse of a possible future intention and his recent announcement of his candidature for the leadership of the Alberta Liberal Party. There is no guarantee that he would in fact not change his mind. However in any event, justice should not be permitted to be circumvented by his announcements or stated intentions- even if he follows through with his plans.

I have been advised by my lawyer that his statement of a future intention does not affect the validity of my lawsuit. Therefore I have instructed my lawyer to proceed with the lawsuit as if Nolan Crouse had not made his announcement of his proposed retirement.

The reason I am continuing on with the lawsuit is that it was commenced to defend the principle stated by Mr. Justice Clement in the Guimond case namely that every citizen has the right “to the even-handed, independent consideration of his elected representatives on questions before Council, unaffected by any influence that could potentially flow from a direct or indirect pecuniary interest.”

That principle was valid before Nolan Crouse announced his intention to retire and remains equally valid after he has given public notice of a future intention which may very well change if I decided to abandon my lawsuit.

The Things That People Send Us

The Alberta NDP are giving away free shower heads, LED bulbs and power bars to Albertans. The 'free' part is bullshit as it is our own tax money that pays for the program, taken from us disguised as a carbon tax. They ought to include one of these to express their sentiments towards us all. . . .
