Can You Die From Lack Of Sleep?

Can You Die From Lack Of Sleep?
For people who suffer from insomnia, the effects can be debilitating.

It can play havoc with your mental and physical states, leaving you feeling like you’re wandering around in a haze.

Sleep deprivation is actually a very hard topic to study, because you’d actually have to stop someone sleeping to monitor the effects, and obviously this isn’t something you can force on anyone. Particular when asking whether sleep deprivation can kill you, it’s unfeasible to study this in any real way.

A SAP Editorial
Democracy St. Albert Style

communication edit
If you read the last issue of the St. Albert Gazette, you could hardly miss the attempt by city council to pretend they care about contact with local residents.

A half page full colour ad complete with pictures of each councillor offers a way for members of the public to contact their elected members of council directly.

But does it?

No way in hell.

Instead every single councillor has the very same phone number. Why is that do you think?

Now all calls to a councillor will be fielded by a city employee who will at that point have the power to either act on the subject of the call to solve it, or pass it along to all councillors.

Gone is the opportunity to discuss a matter with your own chosen member of council. Instead you will be confronted with informing a non elected member of administration of the issue you wish to discuss.

Every previous council for decades have made themselves available to the public, but not these clowns.

Isn't the real purpose behind the change to shelter council members from the wrath of the public if something goes wrong? It also gives administration the extraordinary power to field any questions or issues and solve them in their own way, thereby covering up their own tracks on shortcomings with administration policy now apparently unknown to our elected representatives.

Council's job is to set policy for administration to follow. How is hell can a council correct bad policy that is not working for residents if it never hears there is a problem?

So there you have it folks, this council has neutered itself with its own blade. And the sad part of it is, none of them but Sheena Hughes are intelligent enough to realize just what they have done.

Welcome to communication in St. Albert, now controlled not by your elected members of council, but by the city manager and his staff, entirely at his discretion.

At least it sure leaves that impression on local residents who used to be able to pick up the phone and have a chat with a member of council. It is unacceptable and ought to be rescinded immediately.

Until then should you ever have occasion to phone the administration screening rep to have a council member contacted, please feel free to tell him or her firmly but politely, that the subject matter is none of their damn business.

Don New Caricature Small
One is left to wonder how the Alberta Department of Municipal Affairs might react to this type of controlled environment?

Has anyone considered asking them yet?

If you have an opinion on the matter, please let us know

stretching the hole out so you can thread repair wool

Remembering Hollywood Squares

Remembering Hollywood Squares
These great questions and answers are from the days when Hollywood Squares' game show responses were spontaneous, not scripted, as they are now!

Q. Who stays pregnant for a longer period of time, your wife or your elephant?
A. Paul Lynde: Who told you about my elephant?

Q. Jackie Gleason recently revealed that he firmly believes in them and has actually seen them on at least two occasions. What are they?
A. Charley Weaver: His feet.

Q. According to Ann Landers, what are two things you should never do in bed?
A. Paul Lynde: Point and laugh.

I'M LOOKING FOR A BARGAIN

By Don Hamaliuk

I’m looking for a bargain, something with that WOW
And when I finally find it, I’ll have to buy it now
Its not that I’m impulsive, but I need to keep on changing
I couldn’t bear to stand it, without constant rearranging

I’ll go shopping in the morning and sometimes stay all day
I’ll hope to bring a friend or two, so they could have their say
So many bargains out there, I sometimes need a truck
Today I’ll get the biggest deal, with a bit of luck

A 4 for 1 or 3 for 1, or a buy one get one free
That’s what I’m looking for, and what pleases me
But the one that’s so elusive, is the one that’s second hand
Furniture that’s a century old, or a classic rare name brand

And when I’m back from shopping, there is more work to do
I’ll need to clear my place out and give some of it to you
So if I’m bargain hunting, you’d better make some room
You’ll need to take some stuff of mine, so my shopping can resume

A D-Day Plane Lost For Years Is About To Fly Again

A D-Day Plane Lost
It took two eagle-eyed historians to track down the plane that led hundreds of Allied aircraft into Normandy during World War II.

A few years ago, the historical treasure was languishing in an aircraft boneyard in Wisconsin.

The plane, a twin-engine C-47 called That’s All, Brother, carried American paratroopers into German-occupied France on June 6, 1944, or D-Day. It led the main formation that dropped thousands of men into what became a bloody but decisive battle, paving the way for the liberation of northern France from the Nazis.

Like many other World War II planes, That’s All, Brother was sold for private use after the fighting ended. It cycled through a series of owners and its historical significance was in danger of being forgotten.

But in 2007, the two historians started following a paper trail.
