The Job Hunt

The Job Hunt
A young man with his pants hanging half off his rear, two gold front teeth, and a half inch thick gold chain around his neck, walked into the local welfare office to pick up his check.

He marched up to the counter and said, "Hi. You know, I just HATE drawing welfare. I'd really rather have a job. I don't like taking advantage of the system, getting something for nothing."

The social worker behind the counter said "Your timing is excellent. We just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a chauffeur and bodyguard for his beautiful daughter. You'll have to drive around in his 2014 Mercedes-Benz CL, and he will supply all of your clothes."

"Because of the long hours, meals will be provided. You'll also be expected to escort the daughter on her overseas holiday trips. This is rather awkward to say, but you will also have, as part of your job, the assignment to satisfy her sexual urges as the daughter is in her mid-20's and has a rather strong sex drive."

The guy, just plain wide-eyed, said, "You're bull-shittin' me!"

The social worker said, "Yeah, well . . . You started it"

Alarm Clock Stuck
A couple near Pittsburgh finally retrieved an alarm clock that had been stuck inside their walls for more than a decade.

Sylvia and Jerry Lynn, who heard the alarm buzz at the same time every evening for 13 years, finally had the clock removed after their story gained national attention.

Keith Andreen and Dawn Michelucci of Low-Cost Heating and Air Conditioning came to grab the clock out of the wall through the couple's garage.

The Memory Game

The Memory Game
Two very elderly ladies were enjoying the sunshine on a park bench in Miami. They had been meeting that park every sunny day, for over 12 years, chatting and enjoying each others' friendship.

One day, the younger of the two ladies, turns to the other and says, "Please don't be angry with me dear, but I am embarrassed. After all these years, what is your name? I am trying to remember, but I just can't."

The older friend stares at her, looking very distressed, says nothing for two full minutes, and finally with tearful eyes, says, "How soon do you have to know?"

Dalmatian Breaks The Record For Largest Litter With Astounding 18 Puppies

Dalmatian Breaks The Record
The birth of Dalmatian puppies is always worthy of a celebration but when it is the largest single litter ever delivered, there are 18 special reasons to mark the occasion.

Miley the Dalmatian broke an Australian record, equalled the world's best and even surpassed Perdita's achievement in the Disney film 101 Dalmatians when she gave birth on May 18.

Dog breeder Cecilia Langton-Bunker was shocked at the large litter, not just because the 12 girls and six boys delivered were record-breaking but as scans had shown Miley was expecting far less puppies.

The Angry Nun

The Angry Nun
Two nuns, Sister Marilyn and Sister Helen, are traveling through Europe in their car. They get to Transylvania and are stopped at a traffic light. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a tiny little Dracula jumps onto the hood of the car and hisses through the windshield.

"Quick, quick!" shouts Sister Marilyn. "What shall we do?"

"Turn the windshield wipers on. That will get rid of the abomination," says Sister Helen.

Sister Marilyn switches them on, knocking Dracula about, but he clings on and continues hissing at the nuns.

"What shall I do now?" she shouts.

"Switch on the windshield washer. I filled it up with Holy Water at the Vatican," says Sister Helen.

Sister Marilyn turns on the windshield washer. Dracula screams as the water burns his skin, but he clings on and continues hissing at the nuns.

"Now what?" shouts Sister Marilyn.

"Show him your cross," says Sister Helen.

"Now you're talking," says Sister Marilyn. She opens the window and shouts, "Get the hell off our car!"

How Spam Became One Of The Most Iconic American Brands Of All Time

How Spam Became
While you might think of Spam as a basic canned meat, it’s actually one of the greatest business success stories of all time: Since Hormel Foods Corporation launched the affordable, canned pork product in 1937, it’s sold over eight billion cans in 44 countries around the world.

On July 5, Spam celebrates its 80th anniversary. It’s fitting that this comes only a day after the birthday of the United States. The product is up there with Coca-Cola, McDonald’s and Pizza Hut as one of the most distinctive American brands of all time.

As a consumer behavior researcher, I believe Spam’s widespread success can be attributed to two factors: it addressed a real need, and also formed an emotional connection with its consumers, by tapping into American ideals like ingenuity and resourcefulness.

Billionaire Unearths Head-Scratching To-Do List From 1972

Billionaire Unearths
BRITISH billionaire Richard Branson was determined to succeed from a young age — and he’s got the hard evidence to back it up.

The eccentric head of Virgin, currently worth an estimated $US5 billion, has shared a to-do list he’d unearthed that he wrote in 1972, when he was just 22 years old. It was the same year he launched Virgin Records, but before he spun the iconic Virgin name into everything from an airline to a mobile phone company.

Here’s what was on Branson’s to-do list on November 6, 1972:

Living In A Town Of Two

Gross, Nebraska is a small town. That's actually over-selling it. In fact, only two people live there. Mike and Mary Finnegan are the sole residents, and run a bar in the incorporated town. But Gross is a metropolis compared to nearby Monowi, where Elsie Eiler is the only resident. Eiler, the town’s mayor, also runs a tavern. Small towns, big stories.

Going To Hooters And Seeing America

Going To Hooters
It sounds like the beginning of an uncomfortable joke: Four brown kids of Pakistani descent — from Karachi, Dubai, London and Augusta, Ga. — walk into a Hooters on a recent Saturday afternoon.

They order cheese fries, mozzarella sticks and a plate of fried pickles that will later give the Londoner (me) a wild bout of indigestion. Waitresses in the company’s trademark orange shorts flit about, taking orders and smiling at families with children. Burly men in baseball caps clink pints of gold libation. Football plays on one flat screen TV, but is muted for the golf tournament that plays on another.

In truth, this expedition wasn’t a joke, but more of a fascinating ethnographic adventure.

The Sunday Whatzit? Answer
whatzit July 9:17
Might look familiar to some viewers . . . . whatzit?
This is a production 4 track tape cartridge, sometimes
called a Muntz cartridge.
4-track_vs_8-track_compared
Here is a comparison of the 4 track and 8 track cartridges.
The most evident difference is that in 4 track, the rubber
idler wheel pops up from the player, rather than being
part of the cartridge like 8 track. Interesting article about
the 4 track and 8 track development
here.
Congrats to Patrick in BC for solving this Whatzit?

Only The Irish

Only The Irish
Kieran O'Connor always slept with his gun under his pillow. Hearing a noise at the foot of the bed, he shot off his big toe.

'Thank the Lord I wasn't sleeping at the other end of the bed,' Kieran said to his friends in Donegal's pub. 'I would have blown my head off.'

How Americans Order Their Steak

How Americans Order Their Steak
Are people who prefer their steaks well done just wrong? It’s the question that has divided a nation that is otherwise firmly united on the “steak is great” front, given that we Americans consume about 25 billion pounds of beef annually. It makes ordering at steakhouses for large parties a negotiation; it causes effete elitists like me to reconsider the measure of a diner; and I’m going to guess that the BTUs of gas spent taking perfectly good rare steaks to well done amount to an environmental catastrophe.

A May 2014 investigation from this very website — one which, by my own admission, began as a campaign to smear those who enjoyed well-done beef — found that when people self-reported their steak preferences, most said medium-rare, followed by medium and then medium-well.

But that’s just what people say they like. We’re living in a society where meat doneness preference has been used as a political cudgel against the holder of the highest office in the U.S. We have to get to the tender, marbled meat of the issue.

A Note To Our Readers

I just wanted to take a moment and apologize to readers who have been struggling to read SAP for the past two days.

A totally unrelated issue with a server that went down in another country resulted in a major stall of our site and it stopped loading fully for far too many folks starting Friday and continued Saturday.

Our host in Texas couldn't discover the problem, but after some sleuthing most of the day yesterday, I finally tumbled to what was causing the issue.

Sorry to have inconvenienced you folks, but as they say stuff happens. Glad I was able to work it all out. You can catch up on the archives on the past couple of days if you missed it.

HABITS

By Don Hamaliuk

Some habits are so strong and too hard to resist
The good ones you cling to; the bad ones just persist
You need to slow it down and keep a stronger focus
And avoid giving-in, to your mind’s hocus pocus

Your life may be easier, if you were to stop and think
That nothing’s so bad, that should drive you to drink
If the drugs and the alcohol, are getting in the way
Give your head a shake and keep those things at bay

There are many other ways, to put a smile on your face
Take time for yourself and live at your own pace
All kinds of people do it, so it really can be done
Some of those good habits, can be a lot more fun

So quit the job you’re doing, if it causes you to stress
Drop the friends you’re seeing, if they’re causing you distress
If you practice more good habits, you will feel so much better
Like the feeling that you get, when you wear your favourite sweater

Canadian Elite Special Forces Sniper Makes Record-Breaking Kill Shot In Iraq

Canadian Elite Special
A sniper with Canada's elite special forces in Iraq has shattered the world record for the longest confirmed kill shot in military history at a staggering distance of 3,540 metres.

The Canadian Armed Forces confirmed Thursday that a member of Joint Task Force 2 made the record-breaking shot, killing an Islamic State insurgent during an operation in Iraq within the last month.

"The Canadian Special Operations Command can confirm that a member of Joint Task Force 2 successfully hit a target at 3,540 metres," the forces said in a statement. "For operational security reasons and to preserve the safety of our personnel and our Coalition partners we will not discuss precise details on when and how this incident took place."
