Bear Activity In Spring

Fishin’ Alberta With Paul Chaisson

This week I thought I would write about bear safety. Bears are on the move in spring after a long time hibernating.

They are hungry and may have had a litter of bear cubs. Bears are quite afraid of people and they are quite protective of their cubs. This increases the danger of confrontation with people.

When spending time in those areas that have bear presence make noise while out and about. A simple bell attached to your jacket is a good way letting them know you are there.

This short video has some good tips for dealing with aggressive bears.

Marc Emery Claims Smoking Marijuana Makes People Better Drivers

Marc Emery Claims
Canada’s self-proclaimed “Prince of Pot” claims smoking marijuana makes people better drivers, just days after the federal government released its highly anticipated bill to legalize pot.

Marc Emery told Global’s Jeff McArthur Monday on The Morning Show that he smokes and drives every day and maintains he has never been in a car accident.

“Remember, pot doesn’t impair you,” Emery said. “This idea, one of the many myths I have to clear out in the next 18 months, is that pots impairs you. Marijuana makes you more self-aware of your situation, so you’ll be a better driver if you smoke pot regularly.”

Those Pesky Double Negatives

Those Pesky Double Negatives
An English teacher is giving a lesson on double negatives.

He says to the class: "One of the curious conventions of the English language is that two negatives always result in a positive statement; however, never do two positives result in a negative one.”

Device Pulls Water From Dry Air, Powered Only By The Sun

Device Pulls Water
Imagine a future in which every home has an appliance that pulls all the water the household needs out of the air, even in dry or desert climates, using only the power of the sun.

That future may be around the corner, with the demonstration this week of a water harvester that uses only ambient sunlight to pull liters of water out of the air each day in conditions as low as 20 percent humidity, a level common in arid areas.

The solar-powered harvester, reported in the journal Science, was constructed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology using a special material - a metal-organic framework, or MOF - produced at the University of California, Berkeley.

Bizarre New Species Of Crab Lives Entirely In Trees

Bizarre New Species
Crabs that live in trees? It's official: Mother Nature has thought of everything.

What's truly surprising is that such a bizarre and unique creature has somehow escaped detection by scientists until now. The new species, which was discovered in the forests of the Western Ghats in south India, was recently described in the Journal of Crustacean Biology. It was found thanks to help from the local Kani tribe, who knew of the crab's existence long before scientists did. The crab was named Kani maranjandu in their honor.

What Happens When You Eat Too Much Bacon?

What Happens When
On his 30th birthday, Luke Abrams received 30 pounds of Red Robin-brand bacon—”Applewood smoked!”—from a friend who was a cook at the chain. “Red Robin is famous for their bacon. It’s like crack,” Luke explained. “I don’t know what sorcery they perform, but it always comes out perfect. It’s not brittle, so it snaps; it’s not floppy and undercooked; it’s not pale pink but this nice rust color. It’s thick and smoky and ah!” As you can’t buy Red Robin bacon wholesale, the perfect bacon experience was not one Luke could hope to replicate at home—until that fateful birthday.

Is there such a thing as too much bacon? At the time, Luke Abrams didn’t think so. So the Saturday after his birthday, he woke up with a mission to make the perfect bacon, no matter how much consumption that took.

Angela played more than a major role in many of our shows longevities and success, and has helped many with the who, what, where, when and why's of the scene and community that has brought numerous shows attention from many directions we otherwise may not have attracted. She is truly the first lady of our local music scene and I am happy she accepted my invite. Thanks sister!

All About The Law

All About The Law
Law of the Theatres and Sports Arenas

At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle, always arrive last. They are the ones who will leave their seats several times to go for food, beer, or the toilet and who leave early before the end of the performance or the game is over. The folks in the aisle seats come early, never move once, have long gangling legs or big bellies and stay to the bitter end of the performance. The aisle people also are very surly folk.

Tesla Plans To Build Entire City, Possibly Hundreds Of Cities

Tesla Plans To Build
Elon Musk can’t stop. Tesla can’t stop. The cleantech revolution can’t stop.

As if electric robotaxis, solar roofs, insane battery price reductions and gigafactories, reusable rockets, record-shattering acceleration, electric semi trucks and minibuses, and hyperloops + tunnel-boring companies weren’t enough, Elon Musk has decided to build entire cleantech cities. Well, he’s starting with one, but if all goes well, that could leads to hundreds more.

As you might have guessed, these #TeslaCities have several unique features.

You might think you know whatzit, but it's tricky.
Mmm, delicious. Did you guess it's a Scotch Egg?
Let's back up a bit for a better picture.
Scotch Egg full
Scotch eggs are soft boiled eggs wrapped in sausage
meat, breaded and deep fried. You gotta try it. "Not only
was RP from Windsor correct, he was precisely correct,
insofar as it is indeed just 1/2 of a Scotch Egg. Good
luck on the recipe today!"

Easter Tale Shocker

Easter Tale Shocker
Three blondes died and found themselves standing before St. Peter. He told them that before they could enter the Kingdom, they had to tell him what Easter represented.

The first blonde, an American, said "Easter is a holiday where they
have a big feast and we give thanks and eat turkey." St. Peter said, "Noooooo," and wouldn't let her in.

The second blonde, a Brit, said "Easter is when we celebrate Jesus's
birth and exchange gifts."
St. Peter said, "Noooooo," and he wouldn't let her in either.

The third blonde, a Canadian, said she knew what Easter was, and
St. Peter said, "So, tell me." She said, "Easter is a Christian holiday that coincides with the Jewish festival of Passover. Jesus was having Passover feast with his disciples when he was betrayed by Judas, and the Romans arrested him. The Romans hung him on the cross and eventually he died. Then they buried him in a tomb behind a very large boulder.”

St. Peter said, "Verrrrrry good."

Then the blonde continued, "Now, every year the Jews roll away the
boulder and Jesus comes out. If he sees his shadow, we have six more weeks of hockey."

St. Peter fainted.

You're Tying Your Shoes Wrong: Bad Knots, Walking Untie Laces

You're Tying Your Shoes
The scientific evidence is now clear: we all tie our shoelaces wrong.

America’s epidemic of untied shoes can be blamed in part on faulty shoe-tying technique, according to rigorous experiments in a newly published study. But there is also a more insidious culprit: The mere act of walking loosens even a beautifully knotted lace and quickly leads to the grim fate the study’s authors call “catastrophic knot failure.”

It’s A Hit!

It’s A Hit
A lady failed the written driving test four times. At the fifth attempt, she was determined to pass.

But the test had the same question : "You are driving at 60 mph. On your right is a wall, on your left is a cliff. On the road, you see an old man and a young man. What will you hit ?".

The woman walked up to the examiner and said, "I've answered this question all four ways, wall, cliff, young man, old man. Yet I failed all four times. How is this possible? What am I supposed to hit?"

Examiner: "The brakes!"

Professor Behind Designated Drivers Takes On Distracted Ones

Professor Behind Designated Drivers
BOSTON (AP) — A Harvard University professor who introduced Americans to the concept of designated drivers to deter drunken driving is now taking on the deadly problem of motorists distracted by cellphones and other electronics.

Jay Winsten is consulting with federal and Massachusetts officials to develop a new generation of public awareness messages.

"We wanted to find out why all efforts to date to tackle distracted driving have utterly failed," Winsten said.

Distracted driving killed 3,477 people in 2015, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Governors Highway Safety Association recently cited it as contributing to a surge in pedestrian fatalities last year. Just last week, after a crash killed 13 people in Texas, a witness said a pickup driver who collided with a minibus acknowledged he was texting; the crash is being investigated.
