A cop stoped a guy for speeding.

"License and registration," he asked.

After handing them over, the cop reviews his license, looks at his face, and says, "it says here you need glasses".

The guy politely protested, "Officer, I have contacts".

The cop shot back, "I don't care who you know, you still have to wear your glasses".

Care Home Sets Up Old-Style Pub For Residents To Have A Drink

Care Home Sets Up Old
It’s never too early to plan your final years, and we think we’ve found a good place for them.

If not a hammock on a beach in Tahiti, how about this care home – complete with a pub on site?

Residents may not be mobile enough to easily get to their local, so instead their local has come to them. They can relax with a pint of a glass of wine at The Carer’s Arms, and frankly we’re wondering why people didn’t think of this sooner.

Where You Can Swing Over The Edge Of The World

Where You Can Swing
Every morning before the sun rises, 75-year-old Carlos Sánchez says a prayer in his one-room hut, grabs a pair of binoculars and slowly climbs up into a lonely treehouse that leans precariously over the edge of a mountain.

From his perch high above the misty folds of the Ecuadorian Andes, Sánchez peers across the emerald valley’s patchwork fields towards the towering 5,023m-tall crater of Tungurahua, a wildly active stratovolcano whose name means ‘throat of fire’ in the local Quechua language.

The Weeping Man

The Weeping Man
A man was kneeling by a tombstone in the cemetery weeping uncontrollably.

Another man walks over to him, only to hear this poor man saying over and over, “Why did you have to die?” As tears flowed down his cheeks.

The man was filled with compassion and as he touched him on his shoulder he asked, “Is this your wife?” and the man replied, “No sir, it isn’t.” And continued to weep while asking over and over, “Why did you have to die?”

Well sir is this your parents? As he wept he replied, “No sir, it isn’t?”

Hmm... the man thought for a minute and then he ask, “Is this your children?” Continuing to weep he replied, “No sir, it isn’t.”

Well sir would this perhaps be a dear friend? “No sir, it isn’t.” He replied as he wept.

Finally the man ask, “Sir who could possibly be buried there that could cause you to be in such pain and anguish?”

The man looked up at him and said, “It’s my wife’s first husband.”

Who Was The Real Mati Hari?

Who Was The Real
It’s exactly a century since Mata Hari was executed by a French firing squad, having been convicted of spying for Germany. To put it another way, it’s exactly a century since the Dutch dancer and courtesan was reborn as a legend. The first biography of her was published in 1917, just weeks after her death, and since then she has been the subject of 250 biographies and novels, along with a slew of stage shows, television series and films – most notably a 1931 biopic starring Greta Garbo.

And those are just the books, films and shows which are officially about Mata Hari. There are at least as many whose siren-spies are clearly inspired by her, even if they have different names. Dishonored (1931) had Marlene Dietrich as a Mata Hari type. One recent academic article categorises Notorious and North by Northwest as ‘Hitchcock’s Mata Hari films’ for their inclusion of female spy characters who use sex to get the job done. And the trailer for next year’s Red Sparrow, featuring Jennifer Lawrence as a Russian agent who is “trained to seduce and manipulate”, is just the latest retelling of the myth.

Sister Judy's A Winner

Sister Judy's A Winner
Sitting by the window of her convent, Sister Judy opened a letter from home one evening. Inside the letter was a $100 bill her parents had sent. Sister Judy smiled at the gesture.

As she read the letter by the window, she noticed a shabbily dressed stranger leaning against the lamp post below. Quickly, she wrote, "Don't despair. - Sister Judy," on a piece of paper, wrapped the $100 bill in it, got the man's attention and tossed it out the window to him.

The stranger picked it up, and with a puzzled expression and a tip of his hat, went off down the street.

The next day, Sister Judy was told that a man was at her door, insisting on seeing her. She went down, and found the stranger waiting. Without a word, he handed her a huge wad of $100 bills.

"What's this?" she asked.

"That's the $8,000 you have coming Sister," he replied. "Don't Despair paid 80-to-1."

What The German Language Reveals About Attitudes To Work

What The German Language
Spending time in a German office can be confusing for a foreigner. The staff greet each other – often in sing-song voices – with the word “lunchtime!” instead of hello. It’s only 11am. What have you misunderstood?

In Germany, the word Mahlzeit ( Mall-zayt; a composite of the German words for ‘meal’ and ‘time’ ) is a standard, yet baffling workplace greeting. And since language creates worlds, the proliferation of Mahlzeit can also reveal a great deal about German working culture.

You could be forgiven for thinking that Germany, Europe’s largest economy, is all about work. They have some of the highest levels of productivity in the world, with unemployment rates at a record low of just 4.1%.

The Arab Sheik

An Arab Sheik
An Arab Sheik was admitted to hospital for heart surgery, but prior to the surgery, the doctors needed to have some of his blood type stored in case the need arose.

As the gentleman had an extremely rare type of blood that couldn't be found locally, the call went out around the world.

Finally a Scotsman was located who had the same rare blood type. After some coaxing, the Scot donated his blood for the Arab.

After the surgery the Arab sent the Scotsman a new BMW, a diamond necklace for his wife and $100,000 US dollars in appreciation for the blood donation.

A few months later, the Arab had to undergo a corrective surgery procedure.

Once again, his doctor telephoned the Scotsman who this time was more than happy to donate his blood.

After the second surgery, the Arab sent the Scotsman a thank-you card and a box of Quality Street chocolates. The Scotsman was shocked that the Arab did not reciprocate his kind gesture as he had anticipated.

He then phoned the Arab and asked him: "I thought you would be more generous than that - last time you sent me a BMW, diamonds and money, but this time you only sent me a lousy thank-you card and a crappy box of chocolates ?"

To this the Arab replied: "Aye laddie, but I now have Scottish blood in me veins".

The Shoplifter's Sentence

The Shoplifter's Sentence
A cranky older woman "in her senior years" was arrested for shoplifting at a grocery store. She gave everyone a hard time, from the store manager to the security guard to the arresting officer who took her away. She complained and criticized everything and everyone throughout the process. When she appeared before the judge, the judge asked her what she had stolen from the store.

The lady defiantly replied, "Just a stupid can of peaches you old fool! The judge then asked why she had done it. She replied, "I was hungry and forgot to bring any cash to the store." The judge asked how many peaches were in the can. She replied in a nasty tone, "Nine! But why do you care about that?"

The judge answered patiently, "Well, ma'am, because I'm going to give you nine days in jail -- one day for each peach." As the judge was about to drop his gavel, the lady's long-suffering husband raised his hand slowly and asked if he might speak.

The judge said, "Yes sir, what do you have to add?"

The husband said meekly, "Your Honour, she also stole two cans of peas!

The Useless Design Features In Modern Products

The Useless Design Features
It was 1872 in Reno, Nevada and Jacob Davis was worried. The Latvian-Jewish tailor had previously made mostly functional items, such as wagon covers and horse blankets for the workers on the Central Pacific Railroad. But this had all changed two years earlier after a visit from a woman requesting a new product: strong waist overalls, or work pants in modern English. They were for her husband, who worked as a woodcutter.

Davis purchased bolts of a heavy woven fabric, cotton duck, from a wholesaler. Then he began stitching. The pants were comfortable and loose-fitting, with a number of thoughtful details. He added plenty of pockets, including a little one at the front for stashing your watch. The weaker points were reinforced with copper rivets, the kind he usually used to fasten straps to horse blankets.

They were a raging success and soon Davis started making them in blue denim, too. His “reinforced jeans” were extraordinarily durable, gradually fading but never breaking. He literally could not make enough of them. He needed a patent, fast.

A UKRAINIAN'S LAMENT

By Don Hamaliuk

What does it take to be Ukrainian, only a Ukrainian knows
It’s all about our heritage and that beautiful Ukrainian nose
Our accents are all different, you can notice in our speech
It’s something that we’re born with, nothing you can teach

But if you ask a Ukrainian anything about their past
You’d better expect to listen, to a long and interesting cast
And everything we tell you, may be stretched out just a bit
We’re so proud of our heritage, our ancestors and our wit

Our food is so delicious and we love our poppy seed cake
One helping is sufficient, but we eat for goodness sake
When sickness comes a calling, we’ll have a body that will fight
And that’s why we eat garlic, to give sickness a faster flight

Be careful what you’re drinking, from the bottle with no label
One or two of those and you’ll fall backward under the table
Our music is so lively and we’ll dance throughout the night
When dancing all those polkas, being Ukrainian feels so right

Our breath may not be tolerable, just after when we eat
The cabbage and the onions, may bring you to your feet
But our music is so lively and we’re such a happy bunch
Stick around for every two hours and we’ll be serving lunch

Sunday Morning Sex

Sunday Morning Sex
Upon hearing that her elderly grandfather had just passed away, Katie went straight to her grandparent's house to visit her 95-year-old grandmother and comfort her.

When she asked how her grandfather had died, her grandmother replied, "He had a heart attack while we were making love on Sunday morning."

Horrified, Katie told her grandmother that two people nearly 100 years old having sex would surely be asking for trouble.

"Oh no, my dear," replied granny. "Many years ago, realizing our advanced age, we figured out the best time to do it was when the church bells would start to ring.

It was just the right rhythm. Nice and slow and even. Nothing too strenuous, simply in on the Ding and out on the Dong.

"She paused to wipe away a tear, and continued "He'd still be alive if the ice cream truck hadn't come along."

What If The VW Beetle Had Never Existed?

What If The VW Beetle
“It runs, and runs, and runs, and runs,” proclaimed a famous 1960s German advert for the Volkswagen Beetle. While the slogan was both a nod to the car’s reliability and its runaway global success, the ad-men behind it could not have guessed that some 50 years later, the scarab–shaped vehicle would still be rolling off production lines.

Although the new Beetle has been reworked from the ground up, it still draws heavily on the design of the original, a vehicle that is now as much a cultural icon as a mode of transport.

But suppose for a moment that the VW Beetle had never existed – would the world have missed this vehicle with the impish grin formed by the bonnet and bug-eyed headlights?
