The Minister's Wife

The Minister's Wife
Jack goes to his buddy Bob and says, "I'm sleeping with the minister's wife. Can you hold him in church for an hour after the service for me?"

The friend doesn't like it, but being a buddy he agrees.

After the service, Bob starts talking to the minister, asking him all sorts of stupid questions, just to keep him occupied.

Finally the minister gets annoyed and asks him what he's really up to.

Bob feeling guilty, finally confesses to the minister, "My friend is sleeping with your wife right now, so he asked me to keep you occupied."

The minister smiled, put a brotherly hand on Bob's shoulder and says... "You better hurry home now. My wife died a year ago".

Change At Car Shows - Good Or Bad?

OK, I admit it, I am a car nut and there is nothing better than taking in a car show and shine on a nice sunny summer day. But I worry about the future of our hobby. More and more I see not the type of thing in the first photo that used to be the norm, but the type of thing in the second photo.

Amber-Trapped Tick Suggests Ancient Bloodsuckers Feasted On Feathered Dinosaurs

Amber-Trapped Tick Suggests
Ticks sucked the blood of feathered dinosaurs some 99 million years ago, a new study suggests.

Modern ticks are infamous for biting humans and other mammals. But ticks are very ancient, and scientists who study their evolution have long wondered what (or who) the little vampires ate before there were lots of mammals to feed on. Feathered dinosaurs apparently were among the possible creatures on the menu.

The findings rely partially on amber specimens from Myanmar. In one of them, a tick is trapped in the hardened resin alongside a feather from a dinosaur that lived during the Cretaceous Period.

Remembering Hollywood Squares

Remembering Hollywood Squares
These great questions and answers are from the days when Hollywood Squares' game show responses were spontaneous, not scripted, as they are now!

Q. Which of your five senses tends to diminish as you get older?
A. Charley Weaver: My sense of decency.

Q. What are 'Do It,' 'I Can Help,' and 'I Can't Get Enough'?
A. George Gobel: I don't know, but it's coming from the next apartment.

Q. As you grow older, do you tend to gesture more or less with your hands while talking?
A. Rose Marie: You ask me one more growing old question Peter, and I'll give you a gesture you'll never forget.

The Newspaper
Ole died. Lena goes to the newspaper office to print the death notice.

The clerk asks her, “What do you want it to say?”

“Ole died.”

The clerk looks up. “What else?”

“Nothing else.”

“But Lena, you were married to Ole all those years. Don’t you want to say anything else about him?”

“Nope.”

The clerk thinks a minute. “You know, Lena, it won’t cost you any more if you add a little. The first ten words are the same price.”

“Ten words, and it won’t cost extra?” she asks.

The clerk nods.

Lena thinks hard, then says, “Ole died. Boat for sale.”

Just When You Think You've Seen Everything

How To ‘Winterize’ Your Dog

How To ‘Winterize’ Your Dog
We winterize our homes and cars and bundle up to brave icy winds outdoors, but too often we fail to do the same for our four-legged friends. Yet regardless of what nature delivers, dogs have to go out and they need regular exercise for their physical and psychological well-being.

Whether urban or rural, dogs can face multiple hazards during the colder months, ranging from cracked paws and dry skin to electrocution or immersion in a frozen pond.

Even pets that escape the cold by heading south with their snowbird owners can encounter unexpected risks that are easily avoided. But let’s focus first on those that stay up north.

Red Skelton's Recipes For Marriage

Red Skelton's Recipes For Marriage
For those of you old enough to remember Red Skelton, I think you will enjoy this. For those of you not old enough you will see what you missed. Either way, his humour was always clean and he was a great entertainer.

* I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our anniversary. "Somewhere I haven't been in a long time!" she said. So I suggested the kitchen.

* We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops.

* She has an electric blender, electric toaster and electric bread maker. She said "There are too many gadgets, and no place to sit down!" So I bought her an electric chair.

What's That Noise Coming From The Forest?

There's something in the woods around Moricetown in central British Columbia, Canada, and it's making some terrifying noises.

The video above, posted last week, captures some eerie howling unlike anything we've heard before. (Turn up the volume on the video above, and be warned that the camera man is a bit chatty.) The current theory posited by some is that it's the call of either a bull moose or elk, species native to the region. For comparison, here are videos of each of their calls below.

Flight Attendant Marks 61 Years On The Job

Flight Attendant Marks
Bette Nash was 21 when she started working as a flight attendant — and she’s still on the job.

Nash, who turns 82 on New Year’s Eve, began her career in the air when Dwight Eisenhower was president for now-defunct Eastern Airlines.

Now, she’s flying the skies on American Airlines’ Washington-Boston-Washington route, on which she gets priority because of her unquestioned seniority.

The veteran attendant of six decades is always the star of American Airlines Flight 2160, said the captain, Mike Margiotta.

Golf On Christmas Morning

Golf On Christmas Morning
Four old-timers were playing their weekly game of golf, and one remarked how nice it would be to wake up on Christmas morning, roll out of bed and without an argument, go directly to the golf course, meet his buddies, and play a round.

His buddies all chimed in and said, "Let's do it! We'll make it a priority, figure out a way and meet here early Christmas morning."

Months later, that special morning arrives, and there they are on the golf course. The first guy says, "Boy, this game cost me a fortune! I bought my wife such a diamond ring that she can't take her eyes off it".

Number two guy says, "My wife is at home planning the cruise I gave her. She was up to her eyeballs in brochures."

Number three guy says, "Well, my wife is at home admiring her new car, reading the manual."

They all turned to the last guy in the group who is staring at them like they all had lost their minds. "I can't believe you all went to such expense for this golf game. I woke up, slapped my wife on the butt and said: "Well Babe, Merry Christmas! It's a great morning for either sex or golf", and she said, "Take a sweater".

Sweden’s ICEHOTEL Has Opened For 2017 And Its Art Suites Are Magical

Sweden’s ICEHOTEL
The ICEHOTEL, that’s located in the Swedish village of Jukkasjarvi, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle and next to the shores of the Torne River, is open for another year.

The fun thing about the ICEHOTEL, apart from it being made out of ice, is that they have a collection of Art Suites that are individually themed and hand carved by artists commissioned from around the world and from a wide range of disciplines. Let’s have a look at this years Art Suites.

See them on Contemporist.

CHRISTMAS TIME IS DIFFERENT

By Don Hamaliuk

Christmas time is different, it now comes twice a year
More time for celebration, with family that is near
We’ve created another life style, in our golden years
Fitting in some southern seniors, as we’re shifting gears

We’ll gather in October, with our loved ones in the north
Then avoid the hustle and bustle, of travel back and forth
So we’ll be in Arizona, when Santa comes to call
Basking in the sunshine and dancing in the hall

We’ll be thinking of our family, freezing in the snow
Slippin’ and a slidin’, everywhere they go
We’ll check them out on facetime, to make sure nothing’s wrong
And join them in a chorus, of their favorite Christmas song

Tell us that you’ll miss us, but that won’t make us stay
We’ll see you in the springtime, not that far away
Or come to Orangewood Shadows and we’ll show you why we’re here
You can join us in our happy hour and share our Christmas cheer

The Sunday Whatzit?
whatzit dec 24:17
A special Whatzit for Christmas eve.
Bixman / St. Albert

READER GUESSES:

*
The first thing that came to mind with the Whatzit pic was of
a Christmas tree loop. You put it on a pole and it descends
down into a Christmas tree shape. -
MG in NS

*
The Christmas Tree loop would be my guess as well Marc,
or it is extended and you are looking at the arial
view. -
Rp in Windsor

*
I just dropped in to say I'm stumped with The Sunday Whatzit?
today and was going to say the same as already suggested,
some sort of spiral Christmas tree when supported with a pole
or twine. But hard to gauge the size with nothing to
compare. -

Have A Real Christmas Tree? You Might Want To Check It For These

Have A Real Christmas Tree?
PHILADELPHIA – At first glance, the knobby tan lump hanging from a Philadelphia man’s Christmas tree looks like it could be part of the branch, but the photo actually shows a praying mantis egg sack, according to WMBF.

“If you happen to see a walnut sized/shaped egg mass on your Christmas tree, don’t fret, clip the branch and put it in your garden,” Daniel Reed wrote on Facebook. “These are 100-200 preying mantis eggs!” Reed said he found two egg cases, called oothecas, on his tree this year.
