Fishin’ Alberta With Paul Chaisson

paul col
This video taken by another ice fisherman shows how fast a vehicle will to go threw the ice. The background shows open water. This guy asked a snowmobile rider if he was safe and he said yes.

He is also driving close to the rocks which is dangerous because rocks absorb heat energy from the rocks that radiates onto the near by ice causing it to soften.

It is always best to auger a hole and check it yourself. The ice should be at least 24 inches thick, is crystal clear and with no snow pack between the layers.

A Long Night

A Long Night
One night a man walks into a bar looking sad.

The bartender asks the man what he wants.

The man says “Oh just a beer”.

The bartender asked the man “Whats wrong, why are you so down today?”.

The man said “My wife and i got into a fight, and she said she wouldn’t talk to me for a month”.

The bartender said “So whats wrong with that”?

The man said “Well, the month is up tonight”.

Antilia, The Most Extravagant House In The World

Antilia, The Most Extravagant
While a 27-storey, two billion-dollar house for six people in the most poverty-stricken area of India might seem a tad bit extravagant to most, the richest man in India and sixth richest in the world, Mukesh Ambani, seems to have missed the memo. And that’s precisely why there is a towering skyscraper that reaches 550 feet with over 400,000 square feet of interior space against the Mumbai skyline.

The opulent residence that completed a four-year construction process in early 2010, was designed by American based architects on 48,000 square feet of land in downtown South Mumbai.

Apparently the owner of the historic Hebert house at 11 Mill Drive was dead serious when she told council if they did not allow the rezoning application, the house would be demolished. This sign was spotted yesterday, all but confirming the destruction of a piece of St. Albert's history. Take that council!

A Little Lie?

A Little Lie?
A police officer pulls a guy over for speeding and has the following exchange:

Officer: May I see your driver's license? Driver: I don't have one. I had it suspended when I got my 5th DUI.

Officer: May I see the owner's card for this vehicle Driver: It's not my car. I stole it.

Officer: The car is stolen? Driver: That's right. But come to think of it, I think I saw the owner's card in the glove box when I was putting my gun in there.

Officer: There's a gun in the glove box? Driver: Yes sir. That's where I put it after I shot and killed the woman who owns this car and stuffed her in the trunk.

Officer: There's a BODY in the TRUNK? Driver: Yes, sir.

Hearing this, the officer immediately called his captain.
The car was quickly surrounded by police, and the captain approached the driver to handle the tense situation:

Captain: Sir, can I see your license? Driver: Sure. Here it is. It was valid.

Captain: Who's car is this? Driver: It's mine, officer. Here's the owner' card. The driver owned the car.

Captain: Could you slowly open your glove box so I can see if there's a gun in it? Driver: Yes, sir, but there's no gun in it. Sure enough, there was nothing in the glove box.

Captain: Would you mind opening your trunk? I was told you said there's a body in it. Driver: No problem. Trunk is opened; no body.

Captain: I don't understand it. The officer who stopped you said you told him you didn't have a license, stole the car, had a gun in the glovebox, and that there was a dead body in the trunk.

Driver: Yeah, I'll bet the liar told you I was speeding, too.

BBC America Launches New ‘Blue Planet’ After ‘Planet Earth II’ Debut

BBC America Launches
BBC America has greenlit Blue Planet II, a new seven-part series presented by Sir David Attenborough that will take a deep dive into the world’s oceans. The news comes a day after BBCA premiered Planet Earth II, a follow-up to BBC’s 2006 acclaimed nature docuseries.

Blue Planet II will explore the latest frontiers of scientific discovery, from icy-white polar seas to vibrant blues of the coral atolls, from the storm-tossed green Atlantic coastline to the black depths of the alien deep. New creatures, including hairy-chested Hoff crabs, snub fin dolphins and Pacific leaping blennies, have been filmed for the first time, as well as new landscapes, such as methane volcanoes which erupt in the Gulf of Mexico, creating underwater lakes of poisonous brine, and the so-called “Boiling Sea” phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean, have been discovered. The series will also take audiences to a “new world” as two manned submersibles to Antarctic waters to 1000m for the very first time.

These "Smart Glasses" Adjust To Your Vision Automatically

These "Smart Glasses"
By age 45, most of us will need glasses at least for reading. That’s because our eyes’ ability to accommodate—to change focus to see objects at different distances—degrades with age. In young eyes, the eyeball’s crystalline lens changes shape easily, allowing this accommodation. But as we get older, this lens stiffens. Objects in close range suddenly look blurry. Hence the “readers” most middle-aged adults begin wearing on a chain or tucking in a handbag, or the bifocals worn by those who already had vision problems.

But the days of popping reading glasses on and off or constantly shifting your gaze through bifocals may be numbered. Researchers at the University of Utah have developed “smart glasses” with liquid lenses that can automatically adjust their focus.

Saint David's Day

Welsh-Flag-007
SINC SAYS: Today is a holiday for our readers in Wales or of Welsh descent. We wish them well on their special day.

Saint David's Day (Welsh: Dydd Gŵyl Dewi, Welsh pronunciation: [dɨːð ɡʊɨl ˈdɛui]) is the feast day of Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, and falls on 1st March, the date of Saint David's death in 589. The feast has been regularly celebrated since the canonization of Saint David in the 12th century, though it is not a national holiday in the UK.

Traditional festivities include wearing daffodils and leeks, both recognized symbols of Wales and Saint David respectively, eating traditional Welsh food including cawl and Welsh rarebit, and women wearing traditional Welsh dress. An increasing number of cities and towns across Wales including Cardiff, Swansea and Aberystwyth also put on parades throughout the day.

The Power Outage

The Power Outage
We had a power cut at our house this morning and my PC, laptop, TV, DVD, iPad and my new surround sound music system all shut down.

Then I discovered that my cell phone battery was dead and to top it off it was raining outside, so I couldn't play golf.

I went into the kitchen to make coffee and then I remembered that this also needs power, so I sat and talked with my wife for a couple of hours.

She seems like a nice person.

Huge Fire Ripped Through Titanic Before It Struck Iceberg

Huge Fire Ripped Through
The sinking of the largest ship ever built, the Titanic, may owe as much to a enormous fire onboard as it did to a gigantic iceberg, it has been claimed.

The doomed vessel, which measured more than 880ft long and 100ft tall, went down with the loss of more than 1500 lives on April 15, 1912 during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York.

However fresh evidence that the Titanic’s hull may have been crippled by a massive blaze that burned unchecked for almost three weeks immediately behind the spot where it was later pierced.

Details in The Telegraph.
