Dale Collins - Started playing guitar at the age of 6 and has kept playing guitar on the top of his priority list since. Dale has always been recognized for his killer guitar riffs, lead guitar style and detail to his gear, tone and sound. He is also an accomplished sound man and recording engineer who also dabbles as a multi instrumentalist.

He has worked with numerous artists over more than 40 years and after 20 years of touring and living on the west coast this Lacombe, Alberta born musician settled back into the Edmonton area. Dale has established a library of decades of recordings with many he worked with closely and is currently working on a project recording an album with partner Bernie Shaw who keeps busy fronting the show for Uriah Heep fame. The album is expected out some time in the new year.

I have to mention that Dale was the guy who got me behind my first drum kit and he spent almost 200 Tuesday nights as our house guitarist. He played a major role in establishing a show that is now in its 14th year. Great to have my old school bud back hanging with us for this one along with two other childhood musician friends bassist Neil Van Dijk and drummer Kelly Stodola in the house for this one. -

The Ex-Wife

Screen Shot 2017-09-01 at 2.38.49 AM
Tom finally decided to tie the knot with his long time girlfriend.

One evening, after their honeymoon, he was welding some stuff in the garage, just for fun.

His new wife was standing there at the bench watching him. After a long period of silence she finally spoke.

"Honey, I've just been thinking, now that we are married, maybe it's time you quit spending all your time out here in the shop. You probably should just consider selling all your welders along with your gun collection and that stupid vintage Harley.”

Tom got a horrified look on his face.

She said, "Darling, what's wrong?"

He replied, "There for a minute you were starting to sound like my ex-wife."

"Ex-wife!" she screamed, "You never told me you were married before!"

Tom replied: “I wasn't."

The Mystery Of The Toynbee Tiles

The Mystery Of The Toynbee Tiles
In the mid-1980s, residents of Philadelphia and several other U.S. cities began noticing strange tiles embedded in city streets and roadways. Measuring about the size of a license plate, these colorful mosaic-style plaques made of linoleum all contained some variation of the following cryptic four-line message:

TOYNBEE IDEA

IN MOViE `2001

RESURRECT DEAD

ON PLANET JUPITER

To date, hundreds of Toynbee tiles have mysteriously appeared in several American cities, including Boston, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Cleveland, New York City, Detroit, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Washington, D.C. and Margate, New Jersey, as well as in South America.

Too Many Cooks Spoil The Broth?

Too_Many_Cooks_Spoil_Broth
It is an old saying but it carries much truth. It can easily be applied to the current crop of candidates for the position of councillors on city council.

Simply put, with perhaps more to come, are there are too many to allow voters to make an intelligent choice? Many of the candidates could easily be described as 'fringe' in terms of their experience for the position.

Too many are there because they want 'to fix' what they see as bad governance. Not to dispute that intent, but is it what will best serve residents in the next four years? The answer to that might just be no.

And too many are there for a single reason, that being to ram through a new branch library.

Neither reason alone is right and many new candidates seem to be ill prepared for the daunting task of serving on council. About half of the field need to consider stepping back and rethink their reasons for running.

They may be doing St. Albert a favour by withdrawing before nomination day to do some real good for the city. There is doubt though, that some can comprehend withdrawal as their ego will get in the way.
The result might very well be some councillors elected by about 10 percent of voters. That would be a terrible reflection of the views of the majority of residents.

Voters are going to have to rise above the petty opinions on both sides of the candidates field and clean up their choices to reflect their own views. They need to pare down the field by half now and concentrate on their prime candidates. Perhaps a future poll on this subject should be considered?

This is much more than about a library. It is about the very future of all things St. Albert.

The municipal inspection has left many suspicious of incumbents. Is there a desire by voters to wipe the slate clean and start over again? Perhaps, but that of course is currently impossible in the case of the mayor's office unless another credible candidate steps forward and enters the mayor's race.

Finally there are potentially about 7,000 voters who signed the petition who do not want the current plan to move forward for the library and see other more realistic options. Many of them perhaps first time voters who could comprise about 20 percent of the normal voter turnout.

At the end of the day, they may very well dictate the results of this election. A candidate for mayor should be very concerned about that petition vote going against them. Elections results have been tipped by far less explosive issues.

Don New Caricature Small
It will be interesting to see how it all turns out in the end. One can only hope the new council can work in harmony and be very aware of the wishes of taxpayers in terms of increasing debt.

St. Albert can and will survive without any new and expensive facilities built in the next four years. In fact it should learn to live with what we have. Face it folks, we have it pretty good right now.

In reality, you are feeding one of the scariest beasts in the technological forest: You are accelerating the development of a massive face recognition engine that has the potential to recognize every man, woman and child on this planet.

Saturday Sessions September 2nd Presents

This weeks Mark Ammar's Saturday Sessions show# 687 presents guest -
Dale Collins - Started playing guitar at the age of 6 and has kept playing guitar on the top of his priority list since.

I admit, I have a tremendous sex drive. My boyfriend lives forty miles away.

She’s 98. He’s 94. They Met at the Gym

She’s 98. He’s 94
Gertrude Mokotoff and Alvin Mann were introduced eight years ago at a gym in Middletown, N.Y., where they still work out twice a week.

“A mutual friend said to me, ‘I’d like you to meet a very nice young lady,’” Mr. Mann recalled after chopping wood one recent morning at his mountaintop home in nearby Cuddebackville, N.Y.

On their first date, he drove her to a restaurant in Middletown called Something Sweet. “He was a perfect gentleman,” she said, and he added, “There was something about her that made me want to keep on talking.”

In a heartbeat, they became an item, talking about dreams and goals and sharing a life together.

Neck Tie iron
A must have in the 1920's. Whatzit?
For the fine dressed gentlemen, a Tie Iron for getting
that tie in the just right form. Even has the old cloth cord
and a 2 pin plug. Of course, most folks have the
dry-cleaners do it, but
here is a link how to do your own
properly.
Congrats to MG in NS for his correct guess.

Funny Thoughts On Being Older

Funny Thoughts On Being Older
1. My goal for 2017 was to lose just 10 pounds. Only 15 to go.

2. Ate salad for dinner. Mostly croutons & tomatoes. Really just one big round crouton covered with tomato sauce. And cheese. FINE, it was a pizza. I ate a pizza.

3. How to prepare Tofu
a. Throw it in the trash
b. Grill some meat

4. I just did a week's worth of cardio after walking into a spider web.

5. I don't mean to brag, but I finished my 14-day diet food in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

6. A recent study has found women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.

7. Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

8. Senility has been a smooth transition for me.

9. Remember back when we were kids and every time it was below freezing, they closed school? Me neither.

10. I may not be that funny or athletic or good looking or smart or talented... I forgot where I was going with this.

11. I love being over 70. I learn something new every day and forget 5 others.

12. A thief broke into my house last night He started searching for money so I woke up and searched with him.

13. I think I'll just put an "Out of Order" sticker on my forehead and call it a day.

14. Just remember, once you're over the hill you begin to pick up speed.

Artist Plays Dead At Popular Tourist Spots To Protest Selfie Craze

Artist Plays Dead
Selfies have become such a huge part of our lives that it’s hard to believe that they only became popular only a few years ago. People are snapping pics of themselves virtually everywhere, from the top of skyscrapers to their bathrooms, and we even gadgets and accessories designed around selfies. Things have gotten so bad that one artist has decided to take a stand against the selfie craze in a very unique way. Meet Stephanie Leigh Rose, the creator of “stefdies”.

What are “selfdies”, you ask?

HELPER OF LIFE

By Don Hamaliuk

In this day I hope you find happiness, love and peace
The possibilities unlimited, if your search doesn’t cease
To the ones that you love and the ones that love you
When you show them your love, it will return times two

And don’t think of saving, for the future is here
Everyone needs love and they need not be near
An Email or text, can pass on that feeling
And will also do good, for your emotional healing

But be very careful, how you parlay each word
The meanings may change, as they are transferred
And our minds will keep working, on the words that were said
Those words will keep following us, till after we’re dead

Then if you believe, that there is life after death
And the words can stay positive, past your last breath
Then you could come back, as a helper of life
Like a spider or an eagle, or somebody’s wife

The Sunday Whatzit?
Neck Tie iron
A must have in the 1920's. Whatzit?
Bixman / St. Albert

READER GUESSES:

*
Morning Don, I once saw something like the Whatzit pic
years ago. My grandfather worked in a men's clothing store
and I saw that thing by the tie section. Could it be some sort
of tie pin or something to smooth a tie? It was over 60 years
ago when I was in my grandfather's store, so I may be WAY
off on this one. We shall see. -

The Old Cowboy

The Old Cowboy
An old cowboy walks into a barbershop in Red Lodge, Montana for a shave and a haircut.

He tells the barber he can’t get all his whiskers off because his cheeks are wrinkled from age.

The barber gets a little wooden ball from a cup on the shelf and tells the old cowboy to put it inside his cheek to spread out the skin.

When he’s finished, the old cowboy tells the barber that was the cleanest shave he’d had in years, but he wanted to know what would have happened if he had accidentally swallowed the little ball.

The barber replied, “Just bring it back in a couple of days like everyone else does”.

Why Aren't Young Men Into Breasts?

Why Aren't Young Men
Are boobs on the outs? This seems to be the case for millennials, at least in regards to their porn-viewing habits. New data released by Pornhub has revealed a rather distinct generational trend regarding our cultural fondness for breasts.

Their data revealed the younger the generation, the less interested they are in women’s mammories. The data exhibits young adults ages 18 to 24 are almost 20 percent less likely to search for breast-related content on the site whereas those 55 to 64 were 17 percent more likely. The age groups in between ascend as viewers age increases.

Don’t get me wrong: This by no means suggests breasts aren’t popular.
