Hi Don,

I ran into a German-born old friend yesterday afternoon. She was shaking with distress.

On her way to the mailbox, a neighbour followed her and called  her a
“f…… nazi jew killer.”

She has lived here for about 40 - 50 years. What on earth is happening, even here?

She is going to report this to the RCMP.

No Name Please
St. Albert

SINC SAYS:

Yep, right here in St. Albert the good, folks.

Toll Booth Tales

Toll Booth Tales
The driver of a huge tractor trailer lost control of his rig, plowed into an empty toll booth and smashed it to pieces.

He climbed down from the wreckage and within a matter of minutes, a truck pulled up and discharged a crew of workers.

The men picked up each broken piece of the former tollbooth and spread some kind of creamy substance on it. Then they began fitting the pieces together. In less than a half hour, they had the entire tollbooth reconstructed and looking good as new.

"Astonishing!" the truck driver said to the crew chief. "What was the white stuff you used to get all the pieces together?"

The crew chief said, "Oh, that was tollgate booth paste."

PHOTO ENFORCEMENT CONTINUES
IN DORMANT CITY PLAYGROUNDS

Winter has arrived. Frigid temperatures are here, and the children are nowhere to be seen on the abandoned snow-covered soccer field along Forest Drive. In St. Albert this only means one thing. Since no one is around there is a lot more room to park the photo enforcement trucks to enforce this abandoned playground zone with inadequate signs.

The two Ford trucks are out in full force this winter enforcing this dormant playground:
Photo Radar GreyFord1500X1100

  • Dark grey Ford XTR Lic # BNB 5662
Photo Radar White Ford1500
  • White Ford XTR Lic # BNB 5661

Their black GMC SUV and white Jeep are keeping busy in other locations in St. Albert.

Municipal Enforcement shamelessly continues to enforce these abandoned playground zones even though there is no shortage of legitimate locations in which to conduct photo enforcement. Contrary to certain opinion, Photo Enforcement is still an effective tool to curb speeding if used appropriately and fairly. Enforcing playgrounds in the winter is a clear example of inappropriate and unfair.

Jardine Security has been contracted to respond to sightings of Photo Radar vehicles in vacant playground zones this winter. Call Jardine for immediate response to monitor photo enforcement activity. Call
while the photo enforcement vehicles are still there.

Huge Mouth, No Anus – Could Be Our Earliest Known Ancestor

A Huge Mouth
You won’t find it in your family album, but a tiny prehistoric creature with a bag-like body, a huge mouth and no anus has become the best candidate yet for our earliest known ancestor.

Thought to have lived as long as 540 million years ago, the creature is the oldest known member of a large group of animals known as deuterostomes, which includes vertebrates – such as humans – as well as starfish, sea urchins and a host of other fauna.

The Policemen’s Visit
A man is sitting at home alone when he hears a knock at the front door.

He opens it to find two policemen there. He asks if there is a problem.

One of the cops asks if he is married. The man replies, “Yes, I am.”

The cop then asks if he could see a picture of the man’s wife.

The guy says, “Sure”, and gets a photo to show them.

The policeman says, “I’m sorry, sir. But it looks like your wife’s been hit by a truck.”

The guy replies, “I know, but she has a great personality and is an excellent cook.”

Provincial Capitals
A blonde wants to prove to people that she’s not just a dumb blonde.

So she asks her friend, "How could I show people I'm smart?"

Her friend says, "Well- you could start by learning all the provinces and their capitals."

The blonde spends the whole week learning them. It’s hard, but she knows it will be worth it when people see how smart she is.

The next week she’s at a party and a man asks a question. Full of confidence, the blonde says, "I know the answer!"

The man is sceptical, but she says, "I'll have you know I'm not just a dumb blonde, I know all the provinces and their capitals."

He says, "Okay, what’s the capital of Saskatchewan?"

She grins and says, "Easy. S!"

Ambulances To Jam Car Radios In Sweden

Ambulances To Jam Car Radios
Ambulances in Stockholm are testing a system that interrupts in-car audio systems to warn drivers that they need to get through.

The solution was developed by students at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in the city.

It broadcasts a voice warning, while a text message also appears in the radio display.

It uses an FM radio signal to jam drivers' speakers and stop music playing.

Details on the BBC.

Letter To The Editor

Does The Mayor Want It All?

letter-writing

Editor:

I was most interested in the observations of Jim Lightbody, University of Alberta Professor of Political Science, in the Saturday (01/21/17) edition of the St. Albert Gazette on the topic of Mayor Nolan Crouse’s political aspirations. These entail retaining his position as Mayor of St. Albert and Chairman of the Capital Regional Board while at the same time campaigning for Leader of the Alberta Liberal Party. Lightbody contends that despite the absence of any legal impediment such behaviour would be inarguably unethical.

Based on the Mayor’s past actions, culminating in being the defendant in both a defamation lawsuit and a legal challenge before the Court of Queen’s Bench on matters of pecuniary interest, not to mention council facing a Municipal Affairs Inspection, it is uncertain if impropriety alone will be a sufficient deterrence.

The comments provided by Ken Allred in the Wednesday (01/25/17) edition of the St. Albert Gazette comprise a ringing endorsement of Nolan Crouse while negating even the slightest hint of the political storm clouds hanging over the Mayor’s head. Allred states; “… lets put the petty politics aside and wish Nolan Crouse well in his bid for the Liberal Leadership …” to wit dear sir, I am compelled to point out that these matters are anything but ‘petty’.

Why We Shouldn’t Lie

Why We Shouldn’t Lie
We were dressed and ready to go out for a dinner and theatre evening. We turned on a 'night light', turned the answering machine on, covered our pet parrot and put the cat in the backyard.

We phoned the local taxi company and requested a cab.The taxi arrived, and we opened the front door to leave the house.

As we walked out the door, the cat we had put out in the yard scooted back into the house. We didn't want the cat shut in the house because she always tries to get at the parrot.

My wife walked on out to the taxi, while I went back inside to get the cat. The cat ran upstairs, with me in hot pursuit.

Waiting in the cab, my wife didn't want the driver to know that the house would be empty for the night, so she explained to the taxi driver that I would be out soon. "He's just going upstairs to say good-bye to my mother."

A few minutes later, I got into the cab."Sorry I took so long”, I said, as we drove away."That stupid bitch was hiding under the bed and I had to poke with a coat hanger to get her to come out. She tried to take off, so I grabbed her by the neck. Then I had to wrap her in a blanket to keep her from scratching me. But it worked, so I hauled her downstairs and threw her out into the backyard. She'd better not crap in the vegetable garden again!”

The silence in the taxi was deafening.

Is Costa Rica Really The World’s Happiest Place?

Is Costa Rica Really
THESE words come to you from the “happiest place on earth”.

In a stroke of good fortune, I am a new resident of a country that has edged out its 194 rivals to claim what could arguably be the most sought-after title the world over.

Further, this little haven of goodness and wellness has claimed this accolade three times in the past seven years.

Welcome to Costa Rica. Home to pristine rainforests and cloud forests, soaring volcanoes, world-class beach breaks, coffee that will appease the palate of the most discerning Sydney and Melbourne bean-hunter and those adorable two- and three-toed sloths.
So, back to that distinction of “happiest place on earth” for a moment. It’s quite a big claim and hefty shoes to fill. As a proud Australian I take it with a healthy dose of scepticism — what’s this tiny nation of 4.5 million souls got that the rest of the world hasn’t?
