About That Sunday Journal Thing
Hi Don,
How is life? Good to see that you are still on top of things.
About that Sunday Journal thing. I too read the Journal most days and too bad for the Sunday edition. A little secret for you that you may already know. Buy yourself a yearly library subscription for $12, you then get access to the library’s online resources.
They have a little program called “Press Display” which I am sure you have heard of. Not only does it give you access to the Edmonton Journal full print version electronically, but to dozens of newspapers worldwide.
Keep in mind these are the current editions and are online as soon as the print version is off the presses, probably even before. Not only that, but you of course get full access to all of the library’s other resources as well.
Have a good day.

Well, well Mark, that would seem to be a very affordable solution, especially for seniors who are online and can no longer afford the Journal's print edition. Thanks for the tip!
The New St. Albert Postage Stamp
St. Albert now has its' own "Postage Stamp." It looks fantastic and adds a special Botanical Arts touch to your outgoing mail! The St. Albert Stamp is real postage; you use it the same way you would use any other stamp.Stamps are valued at the current domestic rate. This means one St. Albert postage stamp gets any standard-size envelope (up to 30 grams) delivered anywhere in Canada.
So if you are looking for a St. Albert touch to incorporate into your outgoing thank you cards, invitations, or promotions, add a St. Albert stamp!
Also available is a package of postcards featuring images shot by four local photographers who took part in the Musée Heritage Museum "Take Your Best Shot" photo contest held for youth aged 8-18 years old. A story behind each of the photographers' photo is included on an insert card. The package consists of four postcards, four St. Albert stamps and is held together with the St. Albert bud icon paperclip. A true St. Albert keepsake! These packages are $8.95.
The stamps will be for sale at Business & Tourism Development and are available in sheets of forty only. The sheets will sell for $32.00 each.
St. Albert Expanded Beautification Program
It is now spring. What a great time to enhance your business and be able to access beautification dollars as well through the St. Albert beautification program. Last year we saw an abundance of flower barrels and hanging baskets throughout the community and a starting of evergreen planters for the colder months providing more colour and greenery to our winter. Many positive comments were received about such beautification efforts which mean more than positive comments but have also resulted in increased sales.
The beautification program has expanded to include all commercial areas in the City of St. Albert, and can provide you with a financial incentive to "Cultivate Your Business" in St. Albert. The program includes planters, hanging baskets, street furniture, perpendicular signage and custom bike racks. Each business is eligible for a maximum grant of $2500 in beautification grants.

The Photography Of Al Popil

Hi Don,
Every rodeo produces at least one image that stands out from the rest. This is my most memorable image from last Saturday, a bronco bunny on Riel Drive.

Toilet Rebate Program A Hit With Residents
St. Albert residents are taking advantage of the City’s toilet rebate program to replace old, inefficient toilets with low-flush or dual-flush toilets to reduce water consumption.
To date, 175 applications have been processed for a total of $11,650.00 in rebates provided to residents. Another 21 applications have been approved (yet to be processed), and 175 applications are in the queue waiting to be verified for an additional $8,725.00 in rebates.
The rebate program is offered in partnership with C3 towards the purchase of new WaterSense labelled low-flush or dual-flush toilets. Residents get a $50 rebate for a low-flush toilet or $75 for a dual-flush toilet. The program which started March 19, 2012 has $30,000 of available funding.
“We are extremely pleased with the response so far to the City’s first toilet rebate program,” says Leah Jackson, Environmental Manager, City of St. Albert. Jackson believes that with the momentum this program is seeing, funding may be gone by the end of June. “Reducing indoor water consumption is an important environmental program for our city, and our residents are using this incentive to ensure water conservation plays a more prominent role in their homes.” In 2010, the average resident used 267 litres of water per day. The City of St. Albert has set a goal to reduce that number to 200 litres per day by 2020.
To be eligible to apply for a rebate, the low-flush/dual-flush toilet must be a WaterSense labelled toilet and a replacement unit. Units installed in newly constructed homes or add-on bathrooms are not eligible. One rebate per household.
One of the feedbacks from applicants has been the desire to be able to access more than one rebate per household. “We would love to offer multiple rebates per household but with limited funding, we want to ensure as many residents as possible have the opportunity to take advantage of this program,” says Jackson. Due to the interest and success of the program, a capital business case for 2013 will be put forward seeking further funding. Due to the limited funding available, one rebate per household will remain part of the criteria.
